Gov Ben Ayade Loses Senatorial Bid

Governor Ben Ayade of Cross River State, Southern Nigeria has lost All Progressives Congress (APC) senatorial ticket to another aspirant Adams Cecelia.

Gatekeepers News reports that Ayade has lost his bid to proceed to the red chamber when concluding his two-term as the Governor of Cross River next year.

The Governor who joined the ruling All Progressives Congress in 2021, took part in the primary that held in Calabar.

From the results of the primary, Ayade polled 52 votes to crash out against Adams Cecelia, who scored 140, while another aspirant Martin Orim got 61 votes.

Few days ago, videos of Ayade in a room with a person reported to be his mistress leaked. The Governor, however, refused to comment on the scandal, and it was not immediately clear whether this affected his chances with delegates.

See the result sheet below:

Ayade, an academic, was elected twice as governor while a member of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party, which he dumped in May 2021.
