Federal Government of Nigeria has signed historic bilateral agreements with Spain.
Gatekeepers News reports that the Special Assistant to President Muhammadu Buhari on digital/new media, Tolu Ogunlesi made this known in a tweet thread on Wednesday.
Ogunlesi stated that the Minister of Justice and Attorney General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami, signed three agreements which include: Mutual Legal Assistance in Criminal Matters, Extradition, Transfer of Sentenced Persons on behalf of the federal government.
He added that in addition to these five (5) MoUs were signed between the two countries by the Minister for Foreign Affairs, Geoffrey Onyeama; Minister of Youths and Sports, Sunday Dare; Federal Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment of Nigeria, Niyi Adebayo; and Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed.
According to him, the MoUs signed by the Ministers bordered Economic & Trade Cooperation, Sports, Health, Tourism, and Science Cooperation.
He added that “The Agreement on Transfer of Sentenced Persons will allow Nigerians serving jail terms in Spanish prisons (there are apparently quite a number of them) to complete their sentences back home, if they so wish. (I’m told Agreement also guarantees some form of legal aid in Spain).”
