Ondo Church Massacre: Lighthouse Pathfinders Awareness Club Calls For Decentralisation Of Police

Lighthouse Pathfinders Awareness club has condemned, in strong terms, the dastardly murder of some innocent worshippers at Saint Francis Catholic Church, Owo, Ondo state, by gunmen on Sunday.

Gatekeepers News reports that the club, in a statement, noted that the Sunday’s incident “is one killing, too many in our country; and goes to further confirm the precarious state of the security of lives and property of Nigerians in their fatherland.”

The Lighthouse Pathfinders Awareness Club suggested that the nation’s policing system be decentralised to allow for better efficiency.

The statement reads in part: “While praying that God accept the repose of the dead, we sympathise and commiserate with their families, the Catholic Church family, Ondo State government, people of Owo in particular, and those of Ondo state in general.

“We also emphatise with the injured and wish them all a very quick recovery. We call on good spirited Nigerians, and particularly the government of Ondo State, under the leadership of Arakunrin Rotimi Akeredolu, to donate generously to the management of Saint Francis Catholic Church, Owo, to allow it offer the necessary assistance to the families of the injured to cover their medical bills. We also implore healthy residents of the state to donate blood to the management of the hospital where these injured Nigerians are being treated, to aid those that may be in dare need blood transfusion.

“While calling on these evil minded perpetrators and others like them, that may be contemplating such heinous crime in the future to desist, we hasten to call on the government of Nigeria, superintended over by H.E. Mohammadu Buhari to bring the perpetrators to book and restructure our security architecture to be more intelligence driven, so as to nip such attack as this in bud before it happens. For now, it is obvious that our security network is deficient in its duty of competently protecting Nigerians.

“We therefore suggest that the country’s policing system be decentralised to allow for better efficiency and efficacy.”
