A young woman on Wednesday revealed that she unintentionally killed a close neighbour following a brief altercation in Pulka village, Gwoza Local Government Area of Borno State.
Gatekeepers News reports that 20 years old Hadiza Abdullahi made the confession in Maiduguri, the State Capital during a press conference by the Borno State Police Command where 86 other suspected criminals who were said to have carried out different crimes ranging from culpable homicide, terrorism, criminal conspiracy and theft were paraded.
The Police Commissioner (CP) Abdu Umar who stated that the case is still under investigation revealed that the ugly incident occurred on the 8th of May 2022 when the suspect- Hadiza killed her neighbour with a broken bottle.
According to the Police Commissioner, “the deceased died on the spot” after the incident.
“On 8th May 2022, at about 1400hrs, the suspect Hadiza Abdullahi of Pulka Village, Gwoza Local Government went to a nearby borehole to fetch water where the deceased; Ali Ibrahim Male of the same address prevented her from fetching water.
“As a result, the suspect used a bottle to stab the deceased on the neck which resulted in his death on the spot,” Umar said.
With tears rolling down her cheeks, Hadiza who is a Mother of two; Abdulkareem and Hauwa, 3 and 11 months old respectively told reporters that her reaction was not targeted at killing the late Ibrahim, stating that she had begged the deceased to allow her to fetch water to prepare a meal for her children.
“I had gone to fetch water at a borehole close to my house in Pulka. But on getting there, the deceased refused to allow me to fetch water saying that I had fetched water the previous day and it was the turn of other residents to fetch because we do not have enough water in Pulka.
“But I told the deceased that I had no water to prepare meals for my children and for other domestic use and besides I was unable to fetch water the previous day as he claimed, but the deceased wouldn’t listen. I then decided to drop my water container with the hope of fetching water before the deceased got angry and hit me at my back with the water container slapped me.
“In that process, I got angry and looked around and found a broken bottle which I threw at him but unfortunately, that led to his death. I never mean to kill him, it was never intentional. I want his parents and government to forgive and release me from police detention,” Hadiza who had been in police custody pleaded.
The Police Commissioner, therefore, revealed that a total of 45 cases have been recorded since May to date, adding that “10 cases are already in court while a total of 87 suspects were arrested.”
