NNPP Is Close To Reaching A Merger With Labour Party – Kwankwaso

Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso, a presidential candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), has revealed that his party is in talks with his Labour Party (LP) counterpart, Peter Obi on a possible merger.

Gatekeepers News reports that Kwankwaso disclosed this during an interview with BBC Hausa.

“We are really talking to Peter Obi, or at least saying that the committee is working to look into the matter (and cooperate with him), and friends and family are coming to talk to us about it,” Kwankwaso said.

He noted that their collaboration was especially important as the All Progressives (APC) and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) had not fielded an Igbo vice-presidential candidate.

The NNPP also confirmed this in a tweet on Saturday.

“We wish to inform Nigerians that, our discussions with @PeterObi and the #LabourParty are still ongoing. Special committee was set to discuss arrangements.

“We hope for good results that will give Nigeria a chance to be alive, once again,” the party tweeted.

There are speculations that Kwankwaso agreed to be Obi’s vice president when the merger is made official.

Meanwhile, Peter Obi has announced former presidential spokesman, Doyin Okupe, as his running mate.
