Glamour Girls Already Breaking Record - Charles Okpaleke Replies Critics
Charles Okpaleke, the chief executive officer (CEO) and co-founder of Play Networks, has addressed critics of the newly released remake of the 1994 Nollywood blockbuster movie, Glamour Girls.

Gatekeepers News reports that Play Networks had partnered with Netflix for the remake of the Glamour Girls which premiered on the streaming platform on June 24.

Gatekeepers News reported that hours after the release the highly-anticipated movie, some Nigerians on social media expressed their disappointments with some of its scenes.

Reacting to the reviews, Okpaleke in an Instagram post on Tuesday, said: “It has really been exciting reading a lot of the reviews for Glamour Girls over the last couple of days. Your positive feedback and constructive criticism gives us the motivation to keep doing more, to keep doing better. Thank you for loving, for criticising, for watching, all while knowingly (or not) telling the world via your numerous platforms to do same,” he wrote.

“Shout out to all Nollywood filmmakers constantly going through the nightmare of making movies in Nigeria. You guys are a blessing and an inspiration.”

He also took a swipe at critics and “self-proclaimed Nollywood filmmakers” who he said are fond of criticising other people’s works without producing any film of their own.

“And of course, a huge shout out to other self-proclaimed Nollywood filmmakers and critics, who have produced numerous movies in their heads, won awards with them and even climbed the stage to make speeches, but are yet to produce any in reality. We see you, we are rooting for you! A win for one is a win for all,” he added.

“I hear we just broke a new record this morning! It has been milestone after milestone, record after record, since the very day we released Glamour Girls, a Netflix Original, on Netflix! The whole world is watching ‘Glamour Girls’ (a film for us, by us).”

Gatekeepers News reports that Glamour Girls is a story of four independent single women who embarked on questionable jobs within Nigeria’s traditionally patriarchal society.

The original version of the movie had starred several Nollywood heavyweights including Liz Benson, Ngozi Ezeonu, Eucharia Anuobi, Pat Attah, Ernest Obi, and Zack Orji, among others.

The remake, directed by Chika Onukwufor, features Nse Ikpe-Etim, Sharon Oja, Joselyn Dumas and Toke Makinwa.
