Ekweremadu: Court Orders NIMC To Send Biodata Of ‘Kidney Donor’ To AGF

Organ Harvesting: UK Court Refuses Ekweremadu’s Plea For Bail
A Federal High court in Abuja has ordered the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) to submit the certified true copy (CTC) of David Ukpo’s biodata to the Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF).

Gatekeepers News reports that Inyang Ekwo, the presiding judge, on Wednesday ordered NIMC to submit the biodata to the AGF for onward transmission to UK court where former deputy senate president, Ike Ekweremadu and his wife, Beatrice, are facing charges for alleged organ harvesting and trafficking.

The court had on July 1st, ordered NIMC, Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), Stanbic IBTC and United Bank for Africa to supply information on Ukpo, an alleged kidney donor, to Ekweremadu.

However, at the resumed proceedings on Wednesday, NIMC, through its lawyer, Muazu Mohammed, notified the court that it could not comply with the order.

The Commission contended that it was not served with hearing notice before the said order was issued against it.

Though NIMC initially asked for the order to be set-aside, it later amended its motion and requested that it should rather be directed to submit Ukpo’s bio-data to the AGF instead of to Ekweremadu’s lawyers.

The request was not opposed by Chief Adegboyega Awomolo, SAN, who represented Ekweremadu and his wife.

Consequently, Justice Ekwo granted the application as prayed.

Gatekeepers News reports that the London Metropolitan Police, in June, arrested and charged Ekweremadu and his wife to court for allegedly bringing a child (Ukpo) to the UK for organ harvesting.

However, according to an earlier letter addressed to the British High Commission, Ekweremadu had said Ukpo was travelling to the UK for tests to determine if could donate a kidney to Sonia, the lawmaker’s daughter.

The UK authorities said the “child” had “been safeguarded”, while the police said their operatives “are working closely with partners on continued support”.

Although the police said Ukpo is 15, his passport and bank verification number (BVN) details show he is 21.
