NASS To Proceed On Two Months Annual Recess Thursday

National Assembly (NASS) will proceed on its annual two-month recess on Thursday.

Gatekeepers News reports that this is coming ahead of the last lap of the 9th Assembly as it clocked three years on June 11, 2022, shortly before the lawmakers embarked on a two-week Sallah break.

At the resumption of plenary on Tuesday, Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila announced that the lawmakers would proceed on their annual break on Thursday.

Meanwhile, the lawmakers had suspended legislative activities till Wednesday (today) in honour of a member of the House, Jude Ise-Idehen, who died during the break.

It is the tradition of the National Assembly that both the Senate and the House suspend sitting on the first legislative day after a member of either chamber dies.

Until his death on July 1, 2022, Ise-Idehen, 52, was a member of the Peoples Democratic Party, represented Egor/Ikpoba-Okha Federal Constituency in Edo State, Southern Nigeria.

Gbajabiamila, while noting that the adjournment was customary said, “As it is customary, honourable colleagues, we will not be taking any business today out of respect for our colleague. The House will be closing on Thursday.”
