Brave Domestic Abuse Victim Reveals Horrific Injuries From Violent Ex-boyfriend

A woman has bravely revealed how her abusive ex-boyfriend raped her and beat her so badly and broke her jaw.

Gatekeepers News reports that Morgan Matthews, 22, was subject to a brutal campaign of abuse by Emmanuel Richards, 42.

During one attack, Richards chased her with a machete and strangled her until she nearly passed out. She woke up to realise that he raped her.

Within two weeks of dating, Richards, who was known as ‘the Tank’, chased her with a brick after she refused to hold drugs for him.

Richards was jailed for 15 years at Minshull Street Crown Court for three counts of rape, two counts of assault and coercive and controlling behaviour.

Now, Morgan has bravely waived her anonymity in order to speak out and encourage other victims to report their attackers to the police.

Mother-of-one Morgan met Richards when she was 18 in September 2018, despite him being 20 years her senior.

She said: “He was known as “the Tank”, but at first seemed harmless.

“I met him while walking my dog in the park and he asked for my number.

“Just two weeks later he became aggressive.”

After an argument, Richards, ‘came at her’ with a brick after asking her to hold drugs for him.

Morgan said he ‘flipped’ and then chased her out of his car with a brick, She added: “I quickly locked the door, but he threatened to kick the door down, so I reluctantly let him in.

“Then he threatened to pour boiling water on me.”

Richards’ violence continued to escalate, one day in November 2018 he demanded sex but Morgan told him she was on her period and didn’t want to, but he ignored her and raped her.

Richards began accusing Morgan of cheating and refused to let her bath or shower, unless he was with her, as he believed she was, ‘washing off another man’.

Morgan said: “Life was a nightmare. Emmanuel didn’t let me wear make-up or have a phone.

“He controlled me and I felt trapped.”

In February 2019, Morgan finally found the courage to split up with him.

But a few days later, when she returned from a night with friends, she found a sign on her door calling her a ‘slag’ and that she had chlamydia.

Days later he ‘wormed his way back in’, Morgan was scared to tell him now after he threatened her family.

One night, in March, Richards came home drunk and threw Morgan down the stairs.

She said: “He picked me up and carried me into the bedroom, and raped me.

“All I could do was cry – I was terrified he’d kill me.”

Afterwards, when Morgan tried to leave him, he threatened to burn her house down.

A few weeks later, Richards attacked Morgan again. He chased her around the flat with a machete, strangling her until she passed out and then he punched her in the face.

Morgan said: “When I came around, he apologised but raped me afterwards.

“I had no escape.”

She woke to find her mother Marie, 47, standing over her, she took Morgan to A&E at Tameside General Hospital and begged her not to go back to him.

Two weeks later Morgan’s mother rang to check on her and Richards answered, when Marie demanded to speak her daughter, instead of passing the phone he punched her in the face.

“I felt something crack and the pain was unbearable – blood gushed down my face,” Morgan said.

Richards took Morgan to Wythenshawe Hospital, where A&E staff asked her if she wanted to speak on her own, but she was too scared and refused.

The next week she went to have an operation to reset her jaw, by which point she discovered she was three weeks pregnant.

While at the hospital to have three pins and metal plates inserted into her jaw, Richards was arrested after her mother called the police.

Sadly, she lost the baby a few weeks later.

Emmanuel Richards was jailed in January 2022 for 15 years at Minshull Street Crown Court, after being convicted of three counts of rape, two counts of assault and coercive and controlling behaviour.

Now Morgan has permanent scars, suffers headaches and pain in her jaw, she said: “I’m relieved he’s behind bars but today I’m still in constant pain.

“I suffer panic attacks and have been diagnosed with PTSD.

“I’m so glad Mum called the police. I couldn’t have got away from him without her.

“Please, if you’re in a violent relationship, get out.

“It won’t get better.”
