Police Brutalize UNILORIN Undergraduate – Victim Hospitalized

Men of the F-Division Police Station of the Kwara State Police Command, North Central Nigeria have been accused of brutalising a Liberian international student of the University of Ilorin, UNILORIN, Kwara State, Theophilus Blamoh, in Oke-Odo, in the Ilorin area of the state.

Gatekeepers News reports that that the brutalized Blamoh is a 200 level student of Performing Arts, University of Ilorin.

According to Blamoh, he alongside his colleagues, were on their way to buy some food items when the policemen accosted them and ordered them to enter their patrol vehicle.

He said after entering the vehicle, the policemen collected their phones and started checking for incriminating evidence but to no avail.

The student said they were in the vehicle when one of the policemen allegedly punched his face, stomach and limbs, adding that he became weak during the assault.

He noted that they took them to the police station and locked them up in the cell.

According to him, the Policemen after realising that he was becoming very weak, brought him out of the cell, drove him home and “dumped me at the front of the house.”

Blamoh said despite informing the policemen that he had become numb due to the assault, the policemen abandoned him, adding that he collapsed and woke up in the hospital.

Gatekeepers News contacted the Public Relations Officer of the UNILORIN Students’ Union, Comrade Olabode Stephen.

He noted that the student was brutalized and he was dumped at the front of his hostel.

He added that the welfare secretary of the Union and other officials visited the victim at the hospital and called the attention of the Kwara PPRO and DPO who also visited the victim and offset his hospital bills.

Olabode said, “Well we heard of the incident, according to our findings, the police were on the normal raiding overnight, which is constitutional.

“They approach this guy, which resulted into an argument, he was allegedly beaten up and taken to their station.

“Later that night, he complained about his health and he was taken back to the hostel and dropped outside.

“His hostelmates took him to the hospital, we all visited him in the hospital and met with the DPO.

“We condemned the act, and the DPO and PPRO visited him and balance his bill.

“The guy in question was alleged by the police to have also meddle into an affair which isn’t his own.

“The young man is fine, we condemned the act and he has been successfully discharged.”

Efforts to reach the Kwara State Police Public Relations Officer, Ajayi Okasanmi proved abortive as he wasn’t responding to calls nor texts.
