Banky W Solicits N70m To Fund House Of Reps Bid

Banky W Loses Again As LP Wins Eti-Osa Federal Constituency Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared Thaddeus Attah of the Labour Party (LP) as winner of the Eti-Osa Federal Constituency seat in the House of Representatives. Gatekeepers News reports that Funmilayo Odukoya, the INEC Returning Officer, announced the results on Sunday evening at the collation centre inside Lagos State Model Nursery and Primary School, Marwa, Lekki 1. “That Thaddeus Attah of LP, having satisfied the requirement of the law is hereby declared winner and is returned elected; signed by me. Thank you so much,” Odukoya said. Attah won with 24,075 votes, beating Banky W of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who had 18,666 votes. Babjide Obanikoro of the All Progressive Congress (APC) secured the third spot with 16,901 votes. Odukoya said Oladehin Olufemi of the African Democratic Congress received 1,422 votes; Azeez Kabirat of New Nigeria Peoples Party (414 votes), and Olasunkanmi Ololade, Social Democratic Party (207 votes). Banky W, a singer, had contested in 2019 for the same position under the Modern Democratic Party (MDP). He, however, lost to Obanikoro of the APC.

Nigerian singer cum politician Olubankole Wellington better known as Banky W has launched a fundraiser of N70m for his political ambition ahead of the 2023 election.

Gatekeepers News reports that Banky W in a statement on his official Twitter page said mainstream “politics is expensive and difficult” and cannot be funded by only one person.

The musician is vying to represent Eti-Osa federal constituency in the house of representatives on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Banky W said the financial support is needed to actualise his dream of changing the narrative in politics.

He wrote, “We have an election to win, and we need your help to get over the finish line. In 2019 we planted the seed; in 2023, we will win the seat, and begin the process of fixing Nigeria, one elective office at a time… starting with the house of reps in Eti-Osa.

“If impact is truly the goal, then we must no longer be content to shout from the sidelines. We must get into the system to fix it. The problems in Nigeria are from the top down, but the solutions are from the bottom up. We must build an army of like minds who will enter Government with the same agenda – to fix Nigeria one community, one ward, one policy at a time. It is possible.

“Our plan is strategic, bold, and implementable, but we can’t do it without you. Mainstream politics is incredibly expensive and difficult. No one can do everything, but everyone can do something. Please consider this an invitation to do whatever you can to partner with us on this journey.

“The only people who ever change the world are the ones crazy enough to believe that they can. Here’s hoping you’re willing to take that step of faith, and make a contribution to support this movement, and share it with someone else.”

The fundraiser, which targets N70 million, has garnered N82,000 at the time of filling this report.
