Alaba: Calm Returns After Clash Between Traders And Illegal Revenue Collectors

Panic At Ladipo Market As Union Members And Traders Clash With Military

Traders and touts clashed on Wednesday in Alaba International Market, Lagos State.

Gatekeepers News gathered that the fight was caused by illegal money collection by touts.

Touts in the State are known for collecting monies without legal backing.

Lagos State Police command confirmed the development, saying police have restored peace in the area.

The spokesperson of the State police command, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, said: “Alaba International Market is calm. Normalcy has been restored. @rrslagos767 and men of Ojo Division are on ground, under the supervision of Area Commander Festac, ACP Igbafe Afegbai. There is no cause for alarm as monitoring continues.”

He had earlier tweeted: “A group of people were dispersed with minimal force, as prescribed by law, after they refused all persuasion to leave the highway for free flow of traffic. Many Nigerians had complained of being illegally restrained in traffic. We rose to the occasion. No assault, injury or death.”
