Below are the Nigerian-Americans running for office in the Midterm General Elections on Tuesday, November 8, 2022.

The National Political Program Secretary of the Nigerian American Public Affairs Committee (NAPAC-USA) disclosed this in a statement made available to Gatekeepers News.

Gabe Okoye is running for Georgia State House District 102

Gabe Okoye has lived in Lawrenceville since 1992, raising his children, who graduated from Gwinnett County Public Schools alongside his wife Agnes. Gabe immigrated from Nigeria to pursue the American dream, and through hard work and the support of the community here in Gwinnett County has been able to achieve success as a small business owner of a civil engineering company.

Segun Adeyina is running for Georgia State House District 110

In 2014, Adeyina and his family relocated to Georgia and immediately became Gwinnett County residents, making their home in Grayson. According to him, “Strengthening our community and state is an effort I have devoted myself to since moving to Gwinnett County in 2014.”

Afoma Eguh Okafor is running for Georgia State House District 71

Afoma Eguh-Okafor (Democratic Party) is running for election to the Georgia House of Representatives to represent District 71.

 

Phil Olaleye is running for Georgia State House District 59

Olaleye said on his website, “All my life I have fought to secure greater opportunity. Son of working-class immigrants. Traveling two hours one-way to attend a good public school. Working multiple jobs as a teenager to help support a single-mother-led household. The challenges facing working families and communities throughout House District 59 are not just theoretical for me — I lived it.”

Solomon Adesanya is running for Georgia State House District 43

Solomon Adesanya is running for the State House of Representatives in District 43. Solomon’s primary legislative focus will be on economic development, quality public education, expansion of Medicaid, protecting women’s right to choose, and preserving our climate.

Letitia Naghise is running for Georgia State House District 68

Tish said on her website, “My journey as a Community Service Advocate began a long time ago during the re-election of President Jimmy Carter. For a while, I wasn’t heavily involved in politics other than encouraging family and friends to register and to vote. I resurfaced in politics after my parents passed away, my children were stable, my business was succeeding, and my husband understood that I had to get involved.”

Dr. Oye Owolewa is running in the general election for U.S. House of Representative (Shadow Representative) in Washington D.C.

Adeoye “Oye” Owolewa is a Nigerian-American politician, pharmacist, and a member of the Democratic Party. In November 2020, he was elected as the shadow representative of the United States House of Representatives from the District of Columbia. 

 

Iro Omere is running for Congress in Texas House District 4 in North Texas.

Her website reads, “Iro knows we can make changes and deliver for the community members by working together. Iro is deeply rooted in the community, serving several capacities in various community organizations.”

Attorney Esther Agbaje is the current State Representative in Minnesota House District 59B and is running for reelection to serve a second term.

Agbaje’s website reads in part, “Our district is a growing and diverse area of the city. As we welcome new neighbors, we need to make sure established residents can thrive.
