World Cup Round-Up: France Defeat Morocco To Stage Final With Argentina

France have defeated the 2022 World Cup wild cards Morocco to seal a place in Sunday’s final against Argentina.

Gatekeepers News reports that the first African side to reach a World Cup semi-final were unable to match up after the early score by France’s Theo Hernandez at the fifth minute.

Having lost key defender Nayef Aguerd to injury, Morocco again lost their clearly unfit Romain Saiss to injury.

They came close to drawing level, especially when Jawad El Yamiq’s overhead kick was kept out by a combination of the post and France keeper Hugo Lloris. Nevertheless, Liverpool defender Ibrahima Konate kept their composure in the hothouse atmosphere of Al Bayt Stadium

At the 79th minute, Randal Kolo Muani netted the second goal for the French, deflating the confidence of the Moroccan.

France, on the other hand, kept their spirit high to ensure they defend their crown against Argentina and Lionel Messi at Lusail Stadium on Sunday.

Didier Deschamps’s men at the stoppage time of 2-0 need to keep their nerve to stay on course on Sunday to become the first country to retain the World Cup for 60 years following Brazil’s triumphs in 1958 and 1962.

Meanwhile, Morocco will meet Croatia on Saturday to compete for the third-place spot.
