“I Don’t Know How Much Of New Naira Printed” – CBN Deputy Governor

Deputy Governor, Financial System Stability, Central Bank of Nigeria, Aishah Ahmad has said she does not know “how much of new naira notes were printed”.

Gatekeepers News reports that Ahmad said this while being grilled by members of the House of Representatives during the plenary session on Thursday.

In November, President Muhammadu Buhari unveiled the redesigned naira notes of N1000, N500, and N200 denominations.

On December 15, Gatekeepers News reported that the redesigned notes went into circulation. However, there have been complaints of insufficient quantities available at deposit money banks.

Ahmad who represented the CBN Governor Godwin Emefiele at the lower chamber said she was being careful so as not to give a wrong figure of the amount of printed redesigned notes in circulation.

She, however, said 500 million new naira notes have been ordered and would be printed soon.

The lawmakers further grilled Ahmad on the new cash withdrawal policy of the apex bank.

Ahmad explained that the newly introduced withdrawal limit was not done for political reasons.
