Starlink Now In Nigeria

Starlink, a satellite internet service operated by SpaceX, is now live in Nigeria.

Gatekeepers News reports that Starlink has been available for pre-order in Nigeria since the second quarter of 2022.

Interested Nigerian customers were advised to preorder the starter kits at the price of $600 for the hardware and $43 per month for subscriptions to its services.

“Starlink is now available in Nigeria – the first African country to receive service,” the Elon Musk-owned company confirmed via Twitter that the service is now active.

The company, on its website, said customers can get its services at a lower rate with a 30-day free trial.

The notification said while the hardware would be available for N274,098, the subscription would be at a price of N19,260.

“Starlink is currently available in your area. Customers in your region typically see download speeds of 50-200 Mbps. No contracts, 30-day trial,” the company said.

“Shipping times are currently estimated to be 1 to 2 weeks from order… N19,260/month for service and N274,098 for hardware.”

Gatekeepers News reports that Nigeria is the first in Africa and 47th in world to enjoy the internet services.

Starlink seeks to deliver a global broadband network, using a constellation of Low Earth Orbit to provide high-speed internet coverage with the capacity to penetrate rural and geographically isolated areas.

The nation’s Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Isa Pantami recently stated that the country had achieved 100 percent broadband coverage following the licensing and operation of Starlink.

He said, “Based on the National Broadband Plan, we were to have 90 percent broadband coverage by December 2025. However, we recently gave a license to Starlink to provide services, and this has given us 100% coverage, about 3 years ahead of schedule.”
