Police Detain Kano NNPP Rep-Elect Over ‘Illegal Possession Of Firearms’

Kano State Police Command has confirmed the detention of a chieftain of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Ali Madaki over illegal possession of firearms.

Gatekeepers News reports that Madaki, who is the house of representatives member-elect for Dala federal constituency of Kano was invited for questioning by the police on Wednesday.

The police spokesperson in Kano, Haruna Abdullahi confirmed the development on Thursday morning.

Abdullahi said Madaki is still in police custody and that an investigation is ongoing.

The development comes days after the majority leader of the house of representatives, Alhassan Doguwa was arrested by the police for his alleged role in attacks in the state during the general election.

On Wednesday, Doguwa was charged to court and remanded in prison over alleged criminal conspiracy, culpable homicide, unlawful possession of a firearm, mischief, and public disturbance.

There were violent clashes in the state during the elections and the clashes were allegedly sponsored by candidates contesting for elective office.
