Borno State Governor, Prof Babagana Zulum, on Saturday, flagged off the construction of the N5.8 billion second flyover project meant to further decongest traffic and increase infrastructural development in the State capital.

Gatekeepers News reports that Zulum also performed the foundation laying ceremony of the first phase of 72 units of houses to cater for the accommodation needs of police personnel and federal establishments in the State capital- Maiduguri.

The Governor who had promised to hit the ground running shortly after winning his second term mandate said the second flyover will be sited around the Borno Express which has a T-junction, with roads connecting the three key parts of Maiduguri towards the International airport, township Stadium and Tashan Kano, as well as the city centre.

The contract was awarded to a Chinese Company, Eighteenth Engineering Company (EEC)  after a bidding process and documentation that was done at the State’s Ministry of Works Headquarters in Maiduguri and is expected to be completed in six months.

According to the Governor, the flyover will cover about 600m of a concrete bridge with additional road networks.

“Insha Allah, we shall ensure the release of funds as at when due. I task you (contractors) to ensure that good quality work is done. Insha’Allah, in the next phase of our dispensation we will provide more dividends of democracy to the people of Borno,” Zulum said.

On the construction of houses for the police and other federal establishments in the state, the state governor said that his administration will continue to support and encourage Federal establishments to carry out their duties effectively in the State.

“The houses will be allocated to Federal establishments in the state to ease accommodation challenges,” Governor Zulum said.
