EPL Round-Up: Roberto Firmino’s Late Leveller Toughens Arsenal’s Title Race

As the title race for the English Premier League continues, Roberto Firmino’s late leveller for Liverpool has stiffens leaders Arsenal’s chances of lifting the trophy.

Gatekeepers News reports that Firmino scored the equaliser in the 2-2 draw against Arsenal at their Anfield encounter on Sunday.

Although the league-leading Gunners proved a deserving win in the first half following Gabriel Martinelli and Gabriel Jesus’ strikes, Mohamed Salah gave Liverpool a lifeline before the halftime whistle.

Salah, however, missed a second-half penalty, raising Arsenal’s determination to pass the toughest assessment of their title credentials with the first Anfield win since 2012 has been overcome.

This was shattered by Firmino’s late-minute goal, leaving the Gunners in their six points lead on the table.

At Elland Road, Leeds United have further squashed their hope of escaping relegation after suffering a humiliating 1-5 defeat to Crystal Palace on Sunday.

The Yorkshire missed their early opportunities of securing a win, with Marc Guehi scoring an equaliser on the stroke of half time, before two goals from Jordan Ayew, together with strikes from Ebere Eze and Odsonne Edouard, which helped Crystal Palace to a big win.

Meanwhile, Erling Haaland has announced his return after an injury break by scoring a brace for Manchester City to secure an easy 4-1 win over relegation-threatened Southampton on Saturday.

The Norwegian striker’s goals nudged Pep Guardiola’s side forward, with further goals from Jack Grealish and Julio Alvarez completing the rout.

Despite the victory, the Citizens remain No. 2 on the table, six points away from leading Arsenal.

In other news, Everton and Nottingham Forest suffered a 2-0 defeat at the hands of Manchester United and Aston Villa respectively. The victory signified United’s readiness to get back on track. Although they are on the same point (56) as Newcastle United, the Red Devil remain No. 4 on the table due to goals difference.

Gatekeepers News earlier reported that despite Frank Lampard’s return to Chelsea, the Blues failed to secure a victory on his first game back in charge as they suffered a 1-0 defeat to Wolves.

Following Graham Potter’s sacking last Sunday after seven months in charge, Lampard made a surprise return to Stamford Bridge on Thursday when he was appointed until the end of the season.

The one-time European Champions remain 11th on the table with 39 points.
