Medical and Health Workers’ Union of Nigeria has congratulated the National Agency for Food and Drugs Administrative and Control workforce on the commemoration of the 2023 International Workers Day.
Gatekeepers News reports that the goodwill message was contained in a statement signed by the union’s chairman, Comrade Adetoboye Ayodeji Raphael.
It reads: “We have labored all through the year, and contributed our best to the success of the Agency in our various roles and responsibilities and today, we pause to celebrate even as we reflect on the past and prepare for the future.
Over the years, the NAFDAC workforce has been committed to our responsibility of safeguarding the health of Nigerians as well as contributing to the improvement of trade, and consequently prosperity, and economic wellbeing of our fellow citizens.
The Union leadership acknowledges the effort of the NAFDAC workforce towards two major achievements of the Agency: Maintaining the Agency’s ISO 9001:2015 Quality Management System (QMS) certification as well as the Agency’s attainment of Maturity Level 3 status in the WHO Global Benchmarking of regulatory authorities. Both feats have further strengthened our regulatory systems, placing NAFDAC on a high pedestal amongst regulatory authorities world over.
Despite our efforts in meeting the Agency’s objectives, NAFDAC staff are still some of the poorest paid when compared with colleagues from other regulatory Agencies across the globe and in our Country. The issues of poor salary, welfare, and working conditions which has plagued the Agency is worrisome and could demoralize members of staff who are giving unreserved dedication to work. The Union leadership recognizes this and calls on members of staff not to be deterred. The new leadership is committed to stop at nothing to ensure that staff wellbeing takes center stage in all engagements with the Management of the Agency.
The Union leadership therefore call on all staff members to Unite for the rigorous constructive engagements ahead, for in our unity there is strength.
The May Day celebrations will henceforth take place in all states of the Federation where NAFDAC has offices. Material and financial resources will be made available to Union leaders across all the formations, nationwide for NAFDAC staff to partake in workers day celebrations to allow for inclusivity of the experience.
Please accept the warmest regards of the entire Union leadership as we are fully committed to ensuring that our rights are not denied.
A LUTA CONTINUA!
Long Live Medical and Health Workers Union of Nigeria
Long Live Working-Class Solidarity
Long Live NAFDAC
Long Live the Federal Republic of Nigeria”
