Job Description:
Establish Quality Management Systems procedures and quality standards and to monitor these against agreed targets of Lafarge Africa PLC, Readymix Operations
Ensuring product meets the established standards of quality including reliability, usability and performance in all Lafarge Readymix Plants. Assure customer satisfaction.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Safety, Health & Environment
Required to understand and ensure full compliance with Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) policies. Act as a role model to peers and subordinates with regards to safety management and behaviours.
Demonstrates commitment to communicating, improving and adhering to Lafarge safety policies in all work environments and areas.
Conduct regular VPC across all locations and work with teams and individuals to identify solutions to issues identified
Integrated Management Systems
Development and implementation of the Quality Management System with the goal of having a quality plan with work instructions, quality manual, working procedures and necessary supporting documentation and ultimately ISO 9001:2015 certification for Lafarge Readymix operation.
Responsible for document management systems
Communication and implementation of internally agreed quality procedures, standards and specifications according to ISO 9001:2015 and relevant international standards.
Quality Assurance
Draft quality assurance policies and procedures
Interpret and implement quality assurance standards
Evaluate adequacy of quality standards
Review the implementation and efficiency of quality and inspection testing plan across all plants
Lead and document internal audits and other quality assurance activities
Coordinate and support on-site audits conducted by external providers
Evaluate and cascade audit findings for Management Review and implement appropriate corrective actions
Investigate customer complaints and non-conformance issues
Monthly review of statistical quality data
Prepare reports to communicate outcomes of quality activities
Quality Control and Regulatory Compliance for Readymix Plants
Assure on-going compliance with quality and industry regulatory requirements
Working with Quality Control staff to implement procedures, standards, systems and procedures
Ensuring that concrete batching processes comply with standards at both national and international level
Lead with the support of the Technical Manager the investigation of quality complaints
Drive the implementation and constant review of plant qualification checklist
Acting as a catalyst for change and improvement in performance and quality
Directing objectives to maximise profitability
People Management & Development
Identify training needs and organize training interventions to meet quality standards
Manage QC team, coach and develop a high performing Quality team that meets agreed objectives and delivers best practice results, added value and continuous improvements
Follow up on all plants benchmark in terms of performance and cost with necessary improvement actions
Set department objectives/KPIs and review and assess on-going performance of direct reports
Consistently promote high standards through leading by example imbibing the company values (CRISP) and ensuring that each member of the team understands the behaviours expected of them
Communicate KPIs from the strategic annual plan so that each employee is aware
General
Pro-active approach towards interaction between in-house departments.
Establish and manage relations with independent contractors, vendors and assists in negotiations to secure best possible rates for their products and services
Other tasks as may be assigned from time to time by the Technical Manager.
JOB DIMENSIONS
Sales, number of people, budget, volumes, etc.:
Implement ISO 9001 for certification and maintenance of ISO in all plants
Achieve agreed conformity parameters of BS EN / optimization targets
Sales and sites/customers visit for project requirements / needs
List of Direct Reports:
QC Plant Operations-Gravitas, NKB and Ewekoro.
Key interfaces, stakeholders and relationships:
Internal Stakeholders
Technical Manager, A&C Management team, Sales& Marketing, and support functions-Supply chain, HR, Finance etc.
Close cross functional working with Sales & marketing, Logistics, Plant Operations (Production).
External stakeholders
Consumers/ End-users/ influencers/ Vendors.
Market Research agencies and other service providers.
Government regulatory bodies, policy-making bodies, etc.
Qualifications and Requirements:
Degree in Chemistry, Civil Engineering or equivalent
Certification in Concrete Technology is an added advantage
Minimum of 5years prior supervisory experience in Readymix operation
Certifications in QMS as a lead auditor, Quality Auditor, CQI, Quality Improvement Associate etc.
Good knowledge of occupational health and safety
Demonstrated technical/professional knowledge
Proficient in the use of MS Excel, Word, PowerPoint etc.
Excellent written, verbal and presentation skills
Desirable Skills
Recognised qualification in Health & Safety management
Data collection, management and analysis
Behavioural and/or managerial competencies
Demonstrate high level of good inter-personal relationship
Ability to manage a variety of cross-functional team members
Capacity to build effective teams and drive results
Competent in problem-solving, team building, planning, and decision making
Good communication and listening skills
Able to manage change within the workplace / operating procedures.
