French Open: Djokovic Beats Ruud To Claim 23rd Grand Slam

Novak Djokovic has defeated Casper Ruud to clinch the 2023 French Open men’s singles title.

Gatekeepers News reports that the Serbian claimed a record 23rd Grand Slam title win after a 7-6, 6-3, 7-5 victory over the Norwegian on Sunday.

The victory lifts the 36-year-old to the Number 1 spot, taking over from Spain’s Carlos Alcaraz.

With a straightforward forehand, Djokovic won an epic first set 7-6 before seeing off Ruud 6-3 to claim the second set and 7-5 in the third.

The victory made him the first man in history to win at least three titles at each Grand Slam — just one shy of Margaret Court’s all-time record of 24.

The win sees Djokovic surge past his closest rival, Rafael Nadal, establishing a men’s grand slam record.

Djokovic won his first Grand Slam title in 2008 at the Australian Open, which he has won ten times.

He has also won seven Wimbledon titles and three US Open gongs.
