Lagos state government has announced plans to shut Eko bridge inwards Apongbon bridge on Sunday.
Gatekeepers News reports that Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Transportation, Abdulhafiz Toriola said this was for “immediate remedial palliative works”.
Toriola disclosed this in a statement on Saturday that the closure will last for 24 hours.
This development comes a week after the popular Eko bridge was reopened to traffic after a 15-month closure.
The 4.1-kilometre bridge shut on March 23, 2022, after many shops were destroyed in a fire outbreak in the Apongbon market area.
It initially links Lagos Island with the mainland and directly connects Apongbon on the island side.
Toriola said the planned work on the bridge will be carried out by the Lagos state public works in conjunction with the federal ministry of works and housing.
According to him, the closure will allow uninterrupted palliative adjustment of the bridge.
He added that the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) personnel have been deployed to control and manage traffic around C.M.S, Marina, Ijora, and other alternative routes on Lagos Island and the mainland.
