PHOTOS: Sanwo-Olu Hosts Super Falcons Stars

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State, Southwest Nigeria, has hosted some members of Nigeria’s Super Falcons on Tuesday.

Gatekeepers News reports that the Falcons recently exited the World Cup tournament following a 4-2 loss on penalties to the Lionesses of England.

The Nigerians performed spiritedly against the European champions, forcing the game into extra time and a penalty shootout after a goalless draw.

Sanwo-Olu, while appreciating the Falcons for their feat said he was “honoured to have received” Asisat Oshoala, Rasheedat Ajibade and Monday Gift at Lagos House in Marina.

The Governor in a post on X, formerly Twitter praised the Falcons’ “incredible run” at the World Cup, adding that their performance “ignited a new era of enthusiasm for women’s football in Nigeria”.

The post read, “Honoured to have received some team members of our remarkable Super Falcons at the Lagos House in Marina earlier today. Asisat Oshoala, who came in the company of Rasheedat Ajibade and Monday Gift, came to pay us a courtesy visit.

“The Super Falcons’ incredible run at the FIFA Women’s World Cup has ignited a new era of enthusiasm for women’s football in Nigeria. Their achievements on the field and the unity they brought to our nation are truly remarkable. We will continue to empower and encourage our female athletes and also work towards a brighter future for women’s football in Nigeria.”
