Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in Enugu have arrested 28 suspected internet fraudsters in the state.
Gatekeepers News reports that EFCC spokesperson, Wilson Uwujaren, in a statement says the suspects were arrested on Wednesday in a sting operation in the state.
The EFCC Spokesman says the operation followed credible intelligence on their alleged criminal activities.
According to Uwujaren, the suspects are Godwin Ogbonna; Bright Chidozie; Chukwuebuka Ugwu; Ifesi Isaac; Collins Nnachi; Micheal Nnamdi; Ikechukwu Anya; Nneji Onyebuchi; Nwali Chukwudi and Godwin Okwuchi Promise.
Others include Chijioke Henry; Chinwetalu Harrison; Somadina James; Ejike Ezeoha; Seth Onodika; Akuh Stanley; Emmanuel Opara; Nonso Martin; Ugochukwu Ibeh and Ikenna Okonkwo; Kenechukwu Barry; Ibe Chisom; Felix Nwaeze; Daniel John; Somtochukwu Zadok; Ugochukwu Amoke and Chukwudi Charles.
According to the EFCC spokesperson, nine exotic cars, 44 mobile phones, seven personal computers and one international passport were recovered from the suspects.
He notes that the suspects will be charged in court as soon as the investigations are concluded.
In recent months, the Commission intensified its clampdown on internet fraudsters.
In July, EFCC prosecuted Peter Ayigi Againpriye, a student of the University of Calabar (UNICAL), for internet fraud and the suspect was sentenced to three years imprisonment.
Similarly, in June, EFCC also arrested Ifechukwu Tom Makwe for allegedly posing as a senator to defraud a Spaniard of the sum of €5.7 million.
