Fees Hike: Police Shoot And Fire Teargas At Protesting UNILAG Students

Officers of the Nigeria Police Force have fired tear gas at protesting students of the University of Lagos (UNILAG).

Gatekeepers News reports that according to footage released on X, the tear gas was fired at the students protesting at the University Junction, Herbert Macaulay way, Yaba, Lagos State, Southwest Nigeria.

In one of the videos shared on X, some students of the institution said that they were dispersed from the protest ground with gunshots and tear gas from police officers at the same time.

In another video, sporadic gunshots were heard in the background as students ran for dear life.

 

 

Meanwhile, FIJ reports that Femi Adeyeye, a recent graduate of the university, has been arrested and was taken away in a police van.

As of 10am, Adeyeye said he was picked up alongside some other students by the police and they were in their van at a junction in the university.

The students of the tertiary institution were protesting the tuition hike which is currently over 100% increment in the usual tuition fees paid by the students.
