Rivers Commissioner of Police, CP Nwonyi Emeka Polycarp, has confirmed the arrest of six suspects linked to the brutal murder of DPO Bako Angbashim from the Ahoada Division reportedly carried out by members of a cult gang on Friday night.
Gatekeepers News reports that according to the command’s Public Relations Officer, Grace Iringe-Koko, the arrests were made on Saturday.
The operation which also aimed to recover the victim’s remains was led by the State Police Commissioner and his team, along with tactical units, in the Odumude community, where the DPO was killed.
During the operation, a locally manufactured pistol and various charms were confiscated. The suspects and the seized items are currently in police custody and undergoing interrogation at the State Criminal Investigation Department in Port Harcourt.
As a result of these developments, residents of the Odumude community have reportedly fled the area.
The Police Commissioner has deployed SP Zuokumor Richard as the new DPO for the Ahoada Division and initiated a massive hunt for other cult gang members involved in the murder.
The area has also been reinforced with personnel from Mopol 48, one-third of a unit from Mopol 19, 56, and tactical teams.
Zuokumor has been tasked with conducting a thorough search, apprehending the culprits, recovering the victim’s body, and locating any operational weapons used.
Police said the operation will continue, while investigation is ongoing.
