Election Petitions Tribunal sitting in Umuahia has affirmed Alex Ikwechegh as the winner of the February 25, 2023, National Assembly election of the Abia North/South Federal House of Representatives.
Gatekeepers News reports that the tribunal sacked the lawmaker representing the constituency, Emeka Nnamani of the Labour Party (LP).
The three-man tribunal declared Ikwechegh of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) as the winner of the election.
The Abia-born philanthropist through his foundation, Alex Ikwechegh Foundation has spent several millions of naira in various areas of developmental projects and human empowerment, in honour of his late parents Chief and Lolo Mascot Ikwechegh of blessed memory.
The Foundation has been involved in various humanitarian works and selfless services across the three senatorial districts of Abia state.
Some of the projects achieved through the foundation include:
- The foundation renovated and donated blocks of classrooms in Bende Local Government Area of Abia.
- The Alex Ikwechegh Foundation successfully undertook and renovated NEPA cash offices, and donated vehicles to vigilante groups and also clergymen in memory of his late parents who passed away in 1992.
- Ikwechegh has made several donations to the Alex Ikwechegh Scholarship Scheme, which was established to give underprivileged students in Abia State access to quality education, a scheme that has benefitted over 250 indigent students since its inception.
Others are:
- Medical outreach and offsetting of hospital bills of citizens, including that of Miss Esther Nmecha, the lady whose fingers were chopped off by suspected Fulani Herdsmen in Abia.
- Visits and several donations to various motherless babies’ homes in Abia state.
- Promotion of Aba-made products via purchase and donations.
- Donation of books, sandals, bags, and exercise books to most schools in Aba South and Aba North Local Government Areas of Abia State.
- Regular provision of relief materials and foodstuffs to communities in Abia State.
- Regular provision of kerosene and petrol to communities in Abia State.
Ikwechegh was recently honoured by the Federal government when the finance minister presented an award of recognition to him.
