Police Refund N810k Allegedly Extorted From Victim In Delta – CDHR

Police officers in Abraka, Ethiope-East Local Government Area of Delta State, have returned the sum of eight hundred and ten thousand naira (N810,000.00) that was allegedly extorted from a victim.

Gatekeepers News reports that Comrade Amrevuawho Peter Edariese, the Chairman of the Defense of Human Rights (CDHR), on Sunday, said the money was refunded in three installments between June 3 and June 7.

The payments included four hundred thousand naira, twice, and ten thousand naira which was for POS charges used in transferring the money from the victim’s account.

Edariese revealed that the victim, a septuagenarian, provided evidence of the money transfer.

Edariese further stated that the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in Abraka, Ethiope-East Local Government Area , CSP Fabian, and his officers were involved in “heavy extortion” practices against Nigerian citizens.

Edariese said the incident began on Wednesday May 31 when the police impounded a vehicle belonging to Christopher Umukoro, alleging that he had altered a “hand note” given to him without providing proof of the alteration.

CDHR intervened in the matter and demanded the refund of the eight hundred and ten thousand naira since the DPO, CSP Fabian, could not explain the alteration.

According to Edariese, the Police promptly refunded the eight hundred and ten thousand naira collected from the victim through a POS machine belonging to a policewoman.
