House of Representatives Member, Ahmad Usman Jaha on Wednesday made a passionate appeal to President Bola Tinubu to direct relevant security agencies to halt killings of farmers and residents in Gwoza Local Government Area, Borno State.

Gatekeepers  News reports that Jaha who represent Chibok/Damboa/Gwoza says insecurity within his constituency is growing at a geometric rate, stating that 10 persons, most of whom were farmers were killed by suspected Boko Haram terrorist in September alone.

Jaha made the disclosure during the distribution of 1,700 farm Implements to farmers within his constituency held at the Multipurpose Hall of Borno State Government House.

According to the lawmaker, there is an urgent need to halt the killings of farmers and innocent citizens within his constituency noting that  President Bola Tinubu and the security agencies must do the needful to ensure the safety of lives and properties.

“As a matter of fact, the killings of farmers in my constituency are alarming –  in ten days; to be precise, between 9th September and 19th, 10 young farmers were killed in their farms. The first attack by Boko Haram terrorists was the killing of  6 farmers on the 16th of September, two people were beheaded and while I condoned families of the victims in my constituency, two more farmers were killed.

“But I’m optimistic that President Bola Tinubu has what it takes to arrest the situation.  I want the President to direct the relevant security agencies to urgently come to our aid” Hon Jaha said.

The Federal legislator who is also known as Babawo revealed that the renewed killings by Boko Haram terrorists are aimed at scaring farmers away from harvesting their farms’ produce.

Jaha stressed that urgent and deliberate steps must be taken to prevent the further killing of farmers by Boko Haram terrorists pointing out that such effort will also ensure stability in food production within his constituency.

“We know the reason why Boko Haram terrorists are killing our farmers, they want to scare our farmers away so that they can not go to their farms to harvest their farm produce. If that happens, the terrorists will end up making an economy out of it. It’s a deliberate plan by the Boko Haram terrorists,” Jaha said
