Retirees of the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) have written to President Bola Tinubu over the non-payment of their terminal benefits.
Gatekeepers News reports that the retirees, in a letter signed by Olukayode Joseph, Sunday Idugboe and Jalal Mohammad Lawal, criticised the management of the commission for failing to implement the condition of service approved in September 2021.
The senior citizens who retired from the NIMC in 2022, appealed to President Tinubu for his intervention, saying life had become unbearable for them.
According to them, four of them had died because of their inability to afford hospital bills.
They wrote: “Since our retirement in 2022, we have been in a very bad financial situation. About four of our retired colleagues have died due to their inability to afford their hospital bills and various dependent relatives of the retirees were also thrown into very serious hardship.”
They appealed to the president not to only ensure the payment of their terminal benefits but also the payment “of our outstanding balance of arrears of our salaries from September 2021 as approved in NIMC condition of service.”
They noted in the letter that the retirees had spent the statutory 35 years in the service of the Federal Government but were seconded to NIMC under the Federal Ministry of Communication and Digital Economy.
