A teenage schoolgirl and a coach driver were killed in a bus accident in Merseyside, North-West England, on Friday morning.

Gatekeepers News reports that the school bus was carrying 54 pupils from West Kirby Grammar School and Calday Grange Grammar School in Merseyside when the bus crashed with a car and flipped onto its side.

Witnesses explained how the children were sighted escaping out of the back window after the crash.

Daily Mail reports that the children were taken to an emergency centre where they were medically assessed.

Thirty-nine of them have been discharged but the remainder have been taken to hospital for further treatment.

The police while speaking during a press conference, said two of the children were seriously injured and were taken immediately from the scene to Alder Hey Children’s Hospital.

The area manager of Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service, Mark Thomas, also mentioned that firefighters worked with emergency services colleagues at the scene to stabilise the vehicle and assisted casualties exiting the bus.
