Remilekun: Family Announces Burial Plans- Repatriates Body For Final Rest

The family of Nigerian Remilekun Toyosi Meshioye, who tragically lost her life on September 4, 2023, aboard an Egyptair flight in Cairo while en route to London for further studies, has announced her burial plans.

Gatekeepers News reports that according to a statement by Abdur-Rahman Balogun, the Head of Media, Public Relations, and Protocols of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM), a three-day burial program has been arranged.

The body is set to arrive in Lagos from Cairo on Wednesday.

The program, coordinated by Remilekun’s sister, Mrs. Lola Olaniyi-Alabi, includes a service of songs scheduled to take place at the Winners Chapel in Ogba, Lagos, on Thursday at 4 pm.

The burial is planned for Friday at 10 am at the Matori Cemetery, Ladipo near Oshodi Bus Terminus in Lagos.

Mrs Lola says the family’s decision to repatriate Remilekun’s body was prompted by Egyptair’s failure to accept full responsibility for the incident.

The family had written several petitions to Egyptair and its management, but has refused to even condole them up till this moment let alone accept the responsibility of bringing the corpse back in line with global aviation rules.

Additionally, Egyptair management has not responded to a letter from NIDCOM seeking clarification on the matter and doing the needful for the family.

Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa, Chairman/CEO of NiDCOM, offered her condolences to the family and expressed her sympathy over the tragic incident. She prayed for comfort for the family, particularly Remilekun’s aged father and siblings, and for the deceased to rest in eternal peace.

Remilekun, aged 41, had embarked on her journey to London for further studies, but her life was cut short in the unfortunate plane incident in Cairo.
