Federal Government of Nigeria has revealed plans to conduct a three-day retreat for Ministers and Cabinet members, which will commence on November 1.
Gatekeepers News reports that Mohammed Idris, Minister of Information and National Orientation, announced the development while addressing State House correspondents at the end of the weekly federal executive council (FEC) meeting on Monday.
Idris said the retreat which will start on November 1 will bring together ministers, special advisers, and other high-ranking government officials.
On October 17, Hadiza Bala Usman, Special Adviser to the President on Policy Coordination, said each minister would sign a performance bond with the president at the retreat.
These bonds will include key performance indicators (KPIs) that will undergo quarterly reviews. The KPIs are intended to set clear expectations for ministerial performance.
In addition to outlining performance expectations, the bonds would also come with a consequence management framework for appointees who fall short.
“The role of my office is to ensure that there is coordination across ministries, departments and agencies. We have effectively commenced our work,” Bala-Usman had said.
“We have also looked to see that while there are policy deployments across MDAs, there is also an understanding of the respective deliverables expected of the MDAs of government.
“We are looking to commence an assessment of the respective ministers in January 2024. We are going to have quarterly assessments of performance which will culminate in an annual scorecard.
“In addition to that, we are going to have a cabinet retreat in November with Mr. President. At the end, this would culminate in the performance bond that will be signed by each ministry.”
President Tinubu had on August 21, inaugurated 45 ministers, and added three more on October 16.
