Managing Director of North East Development Commission (NEDC) Mohammed Alkali, on Friday, promised to assist Educational institutions and Psychiatric hospital with development projects within Borno and Yobe States.
Gatekeepers News reports that Alkali pledged at the NEDC headquarters in Maiduguri the Borno State capital when he received delegations from Borno and Yobe states.
The NEDC Boss assured the delegation from Yobe State University, led by the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council, Adam Mustapha Goneri of more development projects in the institution.
According to Alkali, the NEDC would carefully review the council’s requests and consider priority areas for intervention. The commission has also committed to providing scholarships, teacher training programs, and other educational initiatives.
“One of our core mandates is to develop the Northeast, which requires significant investment in the education sector.
We recognize that universities play a central role in education development, and we are eager to partner with all universities in the region,” Alkali said.
Goneri had requested the construction of a sports complex, hostel accommodation for students, utility vehicles, and boreholes.
Similarly, the NEDC said it will assist the Future Prowess Schools in Maiduguri which offers quality education to victims of Boko Haram insurgency- the orphaned children of insurgents and other vulnerable children at no cost.
The MD/CEO of NEDC commended the management of Future Prowess for helping to engage positively children who may have been roaming the streets.
“We will look at your submission and invite you again to see what we can do immediately as low-hanging fruit, mid and long-term,”the NEDC boss said.
In the same vain, the management of Federal Neuro-Psychiatric Hospital, Maiduguri who paid a visit to the NEDC headquarters have also been assuring of development projects assistance by the NEDC
Alkali stated that the Commission is committed to providing support to healthcare centres and hospitals across the North East Region and promised to look into the requests of the Federal Neuro-Psychiatric Hospital to support the hospital.
