The family of Ehi Braimah, the publisher of Naija Times, an independent online newspaper, is deeply saddened to announce the passing of their beloved matriarch, Rose Osovbakhia Braimah (nee Abebe), on November 4, 2023 at the age of 86.
Gatekeepers News reports that in a statement on behalf of the family, Ehi Braimah described his late mother as a remarkable woman, a devoted wife, and a highly respected community leader in Ughodin Quarters, Iruekpen, Ekpoma, Esan West local government area of Edo State.
Mama, as she was affectionately known, was a devout Christian, a caring caregiver, a successful small business owner, a generous philanthropist, a captivating storyteller, and an unwavering advocate.
Ehi Braimah fondly remembered her concerns about the economic hardships and declining quality of life in Nigeria whenever a new administration took office, always hoping for better days.
“Each time a new administration was inaugurated in the country, my mother used to wonder whether it will be better than the previous one, “ reminisced Braimah.
“She was deeply concerned about the pervasive economic hardships and deteriorating quality of life of Nigerians. My mum always talked about the humanity that makes other people’s lives better.”
Throughout her life, Mrs. Braimah instilled values of discipline, hard work, courage, perseverance, selflessness, humility, and leadership in her children. She disapproved of a permissive society that tolerated impunity and provided exemplary leadership in her civic engagements with a firm yet fair approach.
Her faith in Christianity was profound, and she could pray and fast for long hours. Mama firmly believed in the priceless value of quality education, considering it the best means for a child to escape the clutches of poverty. To her, illiteracy was a disease.
Ehi Braimah reminisced about his mother’s journey as a 23-year-old woman who traveled from Iruekpen to Kaduna to begin a family with his late father. She was blessed with nine children, although three of them had passed away. Mama is survived by a brother, two sisters, and grandchildren.
While mourning her passing, the Braimah family is grateful to God for allowing their mother, grandmother, sister, and aunt to live for 86 years. They take comfort in knowing that Mama lived a happy and fulfilling life dedicated to a sense of purpose.
Ehi Braimah declared that Mama has completed her earthly journey, and they, along with all Nigerians, must continue to uphold the values of a decent society she stood for to honor her legacy. Her memories will remain a blessing.
“Mama has finished her race,” Braimah declared, “but we (family members and indeed all Nigerians) must continue to uphold the values of a decent society that she stood for to honour her legacy, and may her memories continue to be a blessing.”
Details regarding the funeral arrangements will be announced at a later date.
