Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Duoye Diri as winner of the November 11 Governorship election in Bayelsa State.
Gatekeepers News reports that the returning officer, Farouq Kuta announced the incumbent Governor the winner after full collation of results across the eight local government areas in the state.
A total of 16 candidates featured in the off-cycle election of the state on Saturday, however, analysts say the state governorship Poll is a two-horse race between APC’s Duoye Diri and PDP’s Timipre Sylva.
Governor Duoye Diri polled a total of 175,196 votes while Timipre Sylva has 110,108 votes.
INEC had adjourned the collation of the election results from Sunday to Monday noon as results for the election in Southern Ijaw Local Government Area were delayed.
However, the awaited results for Southern Ijaw LGA announced after collation resumed, showed that the APC scored 18,174 votes, PDP scored 24,685 votes while Labour Party scored 119 votes.
The All Progressives Congress candidate, Timipre Sylva won Brass Local Government with 18,431 votes while Diri polled 12, 602 votes and Labour Party’s Eradiri Udengmobofa had 83 votes.
