Alleged $2.3bn Fraud: ‘I’m Ready To Testify In Court’ – Obasanjo

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has expressed his readiness to testify on behalf of Nigeria in the $2.3 billion disputed Mambilla power contract case.

Gatekeepers News reports that the case involves Sunrise Power and the Nigerian government at the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) France, with the former alleging a breach of contract and seeking compensation for the repudiation of the agreement.

Sunrise Power claims to have been awarded a $6 billion contract in 2003 during Obasanjo’s presidency but accuses the government of repudiating the agreement.

The company is further claiming that it had already spent millions of dollars on financial and legal consultants before the contract was jettisoned.

The Nigerian government, in defence, alleges fraud and corruption in the award of the contract.

In a letter to the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice Lateef Fagbemi, Obasanjo expressed his willingness to testify “in any form” to support Nigeria’s position in the case.

The Mambilla power project has been a subject of legal disputes, and Obasanjo’s offer to testify could have significant implications for the ongoing proceedings.
