George Akume, Secretary to the Government of the Federation, has announced that he will no longer seek elective positions.
Gatekeepers News reports that Akume announced that he would retire from politics at the end of his tenure as SGF, citing his age as a factor.
The former Governor of Benue State clarified Tuesday while speaking at the colloquium/symposium organised to mark his 70th birthday anniversary celebration in Makurdi.
“I have no ambition to run for election again,” Akume said in reaction to an earlier speech by a former Governor of Jigawa State, Ibrahim Turaki.
“In 2031, I will be 78, no more. I have been a two-term Governor, Senator for two terms, Minister, and now Secretary to the Government of the Federation; So no more.”
The SGF thanked President Bola Tinubu for appointing him and assured that the Tinubu-led administration would make a profound difference in the lives of Nigerians.
