NIMC To Clear 2-year Backlog Of Payments To NIN Enrollment Agents In Q1 2024

National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) says 104.16 million Nigerians have been enrolled into the National Identification Number (NIN) database as of December 2023.

Gatekeepers News reports that NIMC’s latest data revealed that the enrolment figure represents an increase of 10.77 percent compared to the 94 million enrolled at the end of December 2022.

The Commission said out of the 104.16 million people enrolled on its database, 59,120,000 (56.8 percent) are male; while 45,042,172 (43.2 percent) are female.

NIMC stated that Lagos had the highest number of enrolments.

The Commission said, “Enrolment figures as of December 31, 2023, currently stand at over 104.16 million unique records,” the commission said.

“The highest cumulative enrollment figure of over 11.4 million was recorded in Lagos State. Regional figures indicated an almost equal distribution across the North and South.”

In the breakdown of the states with the highest NIN enrolment, NIMC said Lagos topped the chart with 11.4 million enrolments recorded in the state, while Kano swiftly trailed with 9.1 million enrolments, leaving Kaduna in the third spot at 6.4 million.

Others in the top category include Ogun (4.4 million), Oyo (4 million), Katsina (3.5 million), FCT (3.5 million), Rivers (3.5 million), Delta (2.7 million), and Bauchi (2.7 million).

On the other hand, Kwara led the category of the bottom 10 states with 1.77 million enrolments. Akwa Ibom followed with 1.76 million; Kogi (1.73 million), Enugu (1.67 million), Yobe (1.65 million), Taraba (1.4 million), Cross-River (1.1 million), Ekiti (1 million), Ebonyi (839,506), and Bayelsa (657,484).

NIMC noted that the number of enrolment for persons in the diaspora was 530,345 as at the end of 2023.

In November 2023, the Director-General of NIMC, Abisoye Coker-Odusote said the commission cleared over 2.5 million backlogs of NIN modifications.

Coker-Odusote had also assured Nigerians that the NIN registration was free, adding that issues delaying the processing of the national identity cards would be addressed.
