Dr. Ernest Umakhihe, who recently retired as the Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security, has announced his intention to contest for the Governorship ticket of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the upcoming primary of the ruling party.
Gatekeepers News reports that Dr. Umakhihe visited the traditional ruler’s palace of his community, Otuo, Owan East Local Government Area of Edo State last Saturday, December 30, 2023, to formally notify the Ovie of Otuo, His Royal Highness, Julius Segun Ojeabuo, of his retirement from the Federal Civil Service and his impending foray into the political terrain.
Ernest, accompanied by family members, friends, associates and supporters, received prayers and royal blessings from the monarch, Otuo Council of Chiefs and Elders of the agrarian community.
The development comes after pressures from different groups and individuals who urged him to accept the ticket of the APC in the Edo 2024 Governorship Election.
In recognition of his sterling contributions to the overall development of the town while he was in active service, the President and other key officials of Otuo Union, the community’s apex socio-cultural organization were on hand at Ovie Palace to present him an award and investiture into the Otuo Community Hall of Fame.
