Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, and governors have celebrated fallen heroes for paying the supreme sacrifice to protect the sovereignty of Nigeria.
Gatekeepers News reports that Akpabio on Sunday, said the country’s unity came at a great price and the sustenance and defence of this unity rest on the shoulders of the men and women of the Armed Forces.
The Senate President added that President Bola Tinubu-led government was focused on ensuring Nigeria remained an inseparable and indivisible entity.
Akpabio said this at an Interdenominational Church Service for the 2024 Armed Forces Remembrance Day Celebration held at the National Christian Centre, Abuja.
The Senate President said, “If only we could share the pain they feel, then we would truly understand the imperative of eschewing insecurity and violence in all its forms.
“Once again, let us salute the courage and appreciate the sacrifices of our men and women of the Armed Forces. Let us stand in solidarity with the families of our fallen heroes and heroines. I assure you that the government will continue to evolve policies to address the challenges you face as a result of your loss.”
In same vein, Governor Biodun Oyebanji of Ekiti State, Southwest Nigeria enjoined the public to support the families of the Nigerian’s fallen heroes and the legacy of patriotism, love and unity.
The governor, represented by his Special Adviser on Security Matters, Brig. Gen. Ebenezer Ogundana (retd.), spoke during the 2024 Armed Forces Remembrance Day Thanksgiving Service in Ado Ekiti on Sunday.
Oyebanji said, “Armed Forces Remembrance Day was put in place to celebrate the meritorious service of the retired soldiers and the fallen heroes who fought for the peace and unity of Nigeria.
“Looking at these sacrifices, they deserve a lot of praise from the people. The public must support the families they left behind likewise the legacy of patriotism, love and unity.”
Similarly, Governor, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia of Benue State, North-Central Nigeria, advised Nigerians must show kindness to the families of the fallen heroes.
Alia said this at the Chapel of Grace, Government House, Makurdi during the 2024 Armed Forces Remembrance Day Interdenominational Service on Sunday.
He said, “Meeting the needs of those who have put their lives on the line in the line of duty to keep the country safe is the only way they can forget their ugly moments while in service.”
