S’Court Verdict: Police Arrest 38 For ‘Public Disturbance’ In Nasarawa

Nasarawa Police Command said it has arrested 38 persons over alleged public disturbance after the supreme court verdict on Friday.

Gatekeepers News reports that the Supreme Court in its judgement on the governorship election dispute in the state, affirmed Abdullahi Sule as the duly elected governor of Nasarawa.

This sparked a protest in Lafia, the Nasarawa capital as protesters burnt tyres and blocked the expressway to Jos, capital city of Plateau state.

Spokesperson of the Nasarawa Police Command, Ramhan Nansel said the suspects were immediately charged to court and remanded at the Lafia custodial centre.

NAN reported that the suspects were charged before the Chief Magistrates’ Court 3 in Lafia.

When the case was mentioned for hearing by Prosecution Counsel, Danjuma Allu, Chief Magistrate, Mohammed Lanze reserved ruling on their bail application to Monday.

Defence Counsel, Illiya Ashokpa had earlier applied for bail but had his application turned down.

The suspects include five men and 33 women.
