Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu said the federal government is working to resolve the declining electricity supply.
Gatekeepers News reports that Adelabu revealed that outstanding payments are made to power generation companies.
Special Adviser, Strategic Communication and Media Relation to the Minister of Power, Bolaji Tunji, disclosed this in a statement on Friday.
The Minister said the blackout experienced in the country is due to a low supply of gas to power generating companies.
Adelabu noted that the payments were to ensure improved gas supply and bolstered power generation.
He said, “This will also enable distribution companies to supply more electricity to Nigerians.
“We acknowledge the current unsustainable situation, and we expect a turnaround immediately.”
The Minister explained that efforts are being made to guarantee a prompt end to the nation’s electricity situation.
He stated that there has been a noticeable decrease in power supply over the past weeks.
The Minister noted that the circumstances affected production, leading to a blackout in some parts of the country.
Adelabu said, “This is mainly due to a decreased level of gas supply to generation companies.
“This situation has led to a lower level of energy supplied to load centres, which has affected supply of electricity to distribution companies,”
Meanwhile, the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) had earlier attributed the gradual decrease in available generation into the grid to gas supply constraints.
