NLC To Proceed With Nationwide Protest As Meeting With FG Ends In Deadlock

Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) has refused to comply with the Federal Government’s request to suspend its planned nationwide protest.

Gatekeepers News earlier reported that to address the issue, a delegation led by George Akume, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, met with the NLC, Trade Union Congress (TUC), and other labour leaders on Monday night.

The NLC leader, Joe Ajaero, stated that they would conduct a peaceful rally to express their dissatisfaction with the deteriorating economic crisis and high cost of living in the country.

He emphasized that both parties bear the responsibility of ensuring that the protest is peaceful and urged the government to provide security to union members as it is their fundamental right as citizens under the constitution.

Members of the union plan to march to the national and state assemblies across the country to submit their demands to lawmakers and government officials.
