Senate Approves Tinubu’s Request To Sack FCCP Boss

Senate, on Wednesday, approved President Bola Tinubu’s request to relieve Babatunde Irukera of his duties as the Executive Vice-Chair of the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCP).

Gatekeepers News reports that in January, Tinubu had relieved Irukera and Mr Alexander Okoh, the Director-General/CEO of the Bureau of Public Enterprises, of their duties with immediate effect.

The FCCPC Act requires the President to obtain the National Assembly’s approval before sacking the Executive Vice-Chairman of the Commission.

President Tinubu cited inefficiency as the reason for his request, which was read out by the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio.

The Senate put the request to a voice vote, and the ayes had it, prompting the Senate President to hit the gavel.
