President Bola Tinubu is currently meeting Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Jibrin Barau, the deputy president of the senate, and some other lawmakers.
Gatekeepers News reports that the meeting came hours after the senator representing Bauchi Central, Abdul Ningi, was suspended from the Senate for three months.
The meeting took place at the State House in Abuja.
The Red Chamber suspended the Bauchi senator after he alleged that the 2024 budget was padded by N3 trillion.
At the weekend, Ningi stirred a controversy when he made the allegation and said a “huge damage” has been done to the north and the entire country through the budget.
The National Assembly had passed a budget of 28.7 trillion for the 2024 fiscal year.
President Tinubu had proposed N27.5 trillion, but the lawmakers jacked it up by N1.2 trillion.
On Monday, Ningi said he was not afraid of suspension from the Senate.
The Bauchi Senator said, “If it is a cross that I have to carry, I will carry it. I’m not afraid of anything. I believe in one God and I believe that power is transient.
“I am not scared of any issue like suspension – I have been out of the senate for eight years and people had to force me back.”
During Tuesday’s proceedings Ningi, who came with documents, said he had evidence to back his claims.
