A Member of the Federal House of Representatives, representing Jere Federal Constituency in Borno State, Ahmed Satomi, on Wednesday, gave out the sum of N140 Million as agricultural support to empower 162 constituents.
Gatekeepers News reports that the beneficiaries which include men, women, youth and vulnerable persons were admonished to utilize the funds for the purpose intended .
This was made known during a brief ceremony held at Government House Maiduguri where the state Governor, Prof Babagana Zulum presided over the disbursement of the funds in cash and cheques to the beneficiaries.
The gesture according to Satomi is aimed at “Creating 140 Millionaires on Cattle Fattening, Agro Allied and other Agricultural Value Chain in Jere Federal Constituency of Borno State.”
“A total of N140 million will be disbursed, out of these amounts, 96 people will receive N1 million each, 42 people will receive N21 million, while 24 women leaders of Jere local government area will receive N12 million respectively.
Satomi commended Prof . Zulum for his untiring efforts at bringing development not only to his constituency but the entire state and stated that he is following in the positive footsteps of the Governor.
“Your Excellency, with the commitment and sacrifices you made, and the support from the Military, Police and other Security Agencies, as well as our Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF), peace have since returned to Borno, and that is why this year, the Satomi Integrated Farms ltd was able to cultivate over 2,000 hectares of farmlands in Jere alone.” Hon Satomi said.
The Federal Lawmaker however want the Governor to do more in his constituency stating that “like Oliver Twist, we are appealing for the construction of an Irrigation canal from Madinatu to Koshobe communities of Mafa local government area, which is about 21 kilometres with a lot of tributaries that can generate billions of naira for our people.”
Governor Zulum commended the Federal lawmaker for always reaching out to his constituents and empowering them to be self-reliant.
“I must say here that Hon Satomi has been a doing a very good job to his people” adding that the N140 Million disbursement “will go a long way to reducing poverty in the state.”
One of the beneficiaries, Hdiza Muhammed Ahmad commended Hon Satomi and revealed that she will use the N1 Million given to her to expand her poultry farm.
“This is a huge relief and great support to farmers in Jere Federal Constituency, we’ve never had it this good. I’m going to invest my money in the expansion of my poultry farm and make more profit,” Hadiza said.
