Gatekeepers News reports that the Abia State Government, led by Alex Otti, recently repealed a law that allowed past governors and their deputies to receive lifelong pensions after leaving office.
However, Ikpeazu claims that he has never requested or received any such payments since handing over power as Governor of Abia State on May 29th, 2023.
His spokesperson, Onyebuchi Ememanka, released a statement in which Ikpeazu accused the government of engaging in media sensationalism by falsely accusing him of receiving pensions.
Therefore, reports that named him among former governors who were still receiving pensions after leaving office were baseless and untrue.
“Former Governor Ikpeazu has since moved on with his life and is currently engaged in other areas of interest to him and advises the Abia State Government and her various organs to face the business of governance and desist from engaging in needless media sensationalism.
“The general public should be properly guided, please,” the statement released by the Ikpeazu’s spokesman said.
