FRSC Orders Thorough Investigation And Prosecution Of Obajana Multiple Crash Drivers

The Corps Marshal of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Dauda Ali Biu, has instructed the Kogi State Sector Commander to initiate a comprehensive investigation leading to the swift prosecution of all drivers responsible for the Obajana crash incident.

Gatekeepers News reports that this decision was conveyed in a press release signed by Jonas Agwu, the Assistant Corps Marshal , Corps Public Education Officer of the FRSC on Monday.

This development follows the tragic multiple road traffic crash at Obajana market in Kogi State on Sunday, 31st March 2024,

The Corps Marshal emphasized that due to recent collaboration between the Corps, the Nigeria Bar Association, and State Judiciaries, the drivers involved in such accidents will not escape justice.

They will be prosecuted according to the provisions of the National Road Traffic Regulations 2012, and those found guilty will face the consequences of their actions.

According to the press release, preliminary reports indicate that the crash involved four vehicles, including two Dangote Trucks, one Sharon bus, and one motorbike. One of the Dangote Trucks experienced a brake failure while traveling at excessive speed, colliding with three stationary vehicles, including a bus carrying 12 passengers.

The impact of the crash led to a fire outbreak, resulting in the tragic deaths of the 12 bus passengers and the motorbike rider. Overall, the crash involved 15 individuals, including eight adult males, three adult females, three male children, and one female child. Unfortunately, 13 individuals, comprising six adult males, three male children, three adult females, and one female child, lost their lives, while the remaining two victims were rescued by FRSC operatives without injuries.

The 13 victims who lost their lives in the crash were burnt beyond recognition, and their remains have been deposited at the Specialist Hospital, Lokoja.

The Corps has taken decisive steps to address this challenge, and concerted efforts are underway to prevent such incidents in the future.
